Bangkok – City of Angels and Contrasts

Bangkok, or Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, has one of the longest city names in the world, with phrases reflecting the city's cultural and spiritual significance. Translated, it means: " City of Angels, Great City of Immortals, Magnificent City of Nine Gems, Seat of the King and Home of the Incarnating Gods, established by Vishnu at the behest of Indra. " This poetic description reveals the historical depth and divine protection that has always been attributed to Bangkok - a metropolis that combines tradition and modernity in perfect harmony.

Temple

Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaeo - The city's most important attraction, which houses the Emerald Buddha. The entrance fee is around 500 baht per person (approx. 13 euros). This price includes access to both the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
Dhammakaya Temple - This impressive temple is known for its unique architecture and was one of our absolute highlights. Entry is free and you can book tours online (free of charge). The temple is located about 50 km north of Bangkok and is best reached by car or taxi (not expensive). Absolute bucket list experience.
It is important to follow the dress code for visiting the temple: knees and shoulders must be covered, and long trousers or skirts are required. If you come unprepared, you can buy suitable clothing on-site (elephant trousers are trendy).
Wat Arun - The Temple of Dawn. Entrance costs around 100 Baht (approx. 2.50 euros) per person. The temple is known for its stunning architecture and its location on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River and is a popular destination, especially at sunset.
Party mile

Khao San Road – A famous street with a lively atmosphere, ideal for backpackers. Here you can experience partying at its best - we found a cool bar in a small side street that was a bit quieter with live music,
(TnB-Tip: Happy Bar). And if you prefer something even quieter: Rambuttri Street (also known as Soi Ram Buttri) is a quiet and charming alternative to the famous Khao San Road in Bangkok. It is just a few minutes' walk away, but offers a more relaxed atmosphere. The street is lined with trees and offers a variety of restaurants, cafes, bars, and small shops. Here you will also find traditional Thai massage parlors, street stalls with delicious food, and cheap accommodation that is particularly popular with backpackers.

Sky Bar in Lebua State Tower: Famous for the movie "Hangover 2", it offers a breathtaking view of the city. Drink prices start at around 400 THB.
Vertigo and Moon Bar at the Banyan Tree Hotel: Offers a 360° view over Bangkok. Drink prices start at around 500 THB.
Nature
Lumphini Park is a green oasis in the heart of Bangkok and offers a welcome break from hectic city life. With its shady paths, a picturesque lake for boating, and numerous recreational opportunities such as Tai Chi and outdoor fitness, the park is ideal for relaxation and sport. The freely roaming monitor lizards are particularly impressive, and you can also see turtles and lizards.
Night markets

And what is a must in Bangkok? A night market. The Jodd Fairs Market in Bangkok is a modern night market that is known for its wide range of street food, fashion, and unique souvenirs. The large selection of delicious Thai dishes and international dishes offered at the numerous food stalls is particularly popular with locals and tourists. TnB tip: try Pad Thai, Som Tum (spicy papaya salad), Takoyaki (dough balls), Mango Sticky Rice (dessert)
If you are in Bangkok over the weekend, you should not miss the Chatuchak Weekend Market: one of the largest markets in the world with over 15,000 stalls. Entry is free. Opening hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Tours
Floating Market Tour: A visit to floating markets such as Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa is a must. We recommend booking a guided tour, which usually costs between 1,000 and 2,500 THB per person, depending on what is included.
TnB-Tips for eating
Riverside Terrace Anantara Buffet: Many hotels on the Chao Phraya River offer buffets with a wonderful view. We stayed at the Anantara and it was incredibly delicious. An evening buffet costs around 2,000 THB per person.
Kao Soi Thengthong: a very charming local restaurant. We had our hotel nearby and found this hidden gem.
